It provides an escalated level of treatment even when one-on-one visits with a counselor or psychiatrist don\u2019t quite cut it for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The focal point of treatment is group therapy. These sessions are led by a licensed therapist. And they\u2019re designed to provide foundational skills and help you work through the specific challenges you\u2019re facing right now in your life. Being a part of a supportive group can provide you strength, courage, and insight no matter what challenges you\u2019re going through.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-does-iop-compare-to-traditional-therapy\">How does IOP compare to traditional therapy?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Intensive outpatient treatment is not like traditional psychotherapy or regular medication management with a psychiatrist, which can go on for years. That kind of treatment is about keeping someone on the move forward instead of backward.&nbsp;Instead, IOP is a clear-cut intervention. The goal is a noticable improvement in as short a time as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>How short?<\/em> The exact amount of time varies person to person depending on their needs\/progress. Most of our clients report seeing a noticeable impact right from the first sessions. And people can expect to be in the program (and see results) for 6-10 weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That said, we are huge believers in the power of individual therapy. And we&#8217;ll work with you to help you find the ideal therapist for your needs. This gives you the opportunity to further process the discoveries and lessons you gain in the IOP group sessions. And it ensures you&#8217;ll receive ongoing care and support after you complete IOP.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-does-the-iop-process-work\">How does the IOP process work?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Once you\u2019ve determined that this type of treatment would be right for you, we start by having you establish goals that you want to meet. We take those \u201cstated goals\u201d to the treatment team. This team is comprised of a therapist, psychiatrist, care coordinator, and any other relevant staff. The team takes your goals and develops a specific treatment plan with organized steps and interventions. Your progress is monitored by the team on a bi-weekly basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of your treatment will take place in a group setting. This includes 3 sessions per week; each 3 hours in length. You\u2019ll also meet one-one-one with a psychiatrist for monthly evaluation and possibly a therapist, as needed. These sessions will continue until discharge.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-does-iop-compare-to-inpatient-care\">How does IOP compare to inpatient care?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>IOP does have some similarities to a residential program or other forms of inpatient care. You&#8217;ll have the support of a full treatment team (therapist, care coordinator, psychiatrist, etc.). And you&#8217;ll receive direct, personalized care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, with IOP you&#8217;ll still be able to live at home during treatment. This means you can stay connected to your community and support systems while receiving the care you need.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"will-attending-iop-cure-my-depression-anxiety-or-ptsd\">Will attending IOP cure my depression, anxiety, or PTSD?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>No. Any program or treatment that promises a complete cure is being dishonest with you. And we&#8217;re not interested in giving you unrealistic expectations about what&#8217;s possible with treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That said, IOP is designed to help give you fast relief, empower you with practical tools, help you navigate your current challenges, and turn your situation around in a short period of time. Those who commit to their treatment do often see dramatic results&#8230; starting in their first couple sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We track our clients&#8217; progress objectively at Plural Healthcare using a number of clinical assessments. Taking medications is not required. But they may be helpful in some cases. With intensive outpatient treatment, medication alone may not be enough you to a better place. IOP alone might not either, in some cases. And it sometimes requires a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apadivisions.org\/division-55\/publications\/tablet\/2015\/04\/combininations\" target=\"_blank\">dual approach<\/a>, combined with your own efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s why when you&#8217;re admitted into IOP, one of the first things we do is give you a full evaluation with a board-certified psychiatrist. Based on our clinical experience and the latest scientific research, we believe in-person programs produce better outcomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Research Supporting Virtual IOPs Is Not Conclusive Enough.<\/strong> Initial research on virtual IOPs may be promising, but we would like to see larger studies that combine data from&nbsp;multiple&nbsp;IOP providers (including a diverse range of geographic areas, treatment approaches, and program types).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>In-Person IOP Provides a Better Environment for Treatment.<\/strong> Attending in-person helps shift you into&nbsp;the right frame of mind for healing. And it gives you a comfortable and distraction-free space to focus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>In-Person IOP Enables Stronger Group Connections.<\/strong> Attending IOP in-person lets you connect with other group members on a deeper level than if you were talking through a computer screen. Our therapist will get to know your situation and determine whether our program is a good fit. If not, we have a number of trusted providers we can refer you to instead.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-soon-can-i-get-started\">How soon can I get started?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p><em>As soon as possible!<\/em> When you call our office, we&#8217;ll ask a few questions to see if IOP might be a good fit for your situation. Then we&#8217;ll try to get your psychiatric evaluation scheduled within a week. This evaluation is used to to help create your custom treatment plan. And it allows us to get authorization from your insurance for IOP \u2013 so you can get into the group sessions right away. <\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-are-the-days-and-times-of-iop-sessions\">When are the IOP sessions?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>IOP sessions are scheduled for 3 days a week and are typically on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"do-i-need-to-take-off-work-to-do-iop\">Do I need to take off work to do IOP?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>We recommend it, but taking leave from work is not a requirement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IOP is different than being in a hospital or residential program. You&#8217;ll be able to still live at home and continue your day-to-day routines while getting treatment. And since the group sessions take place on three afternoons a week, you may choose to keep working part-time while going through IOP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, most people find it helpful to take a break from the stresses of their job or school. That way they can better focus on their treatment. IOP is covered by most major private insurance plans. We can take both in-network and out-of-network plans. We also have self-payment options for those without insurance.
